EDU213 Teaching Methods III: CTE (Vocational) Instructional Strategies Practicum
This culminating practicum course provides practicing Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers with the opportunity to demonstrate, analyze, and refine their instructional practice.
Participants use authentic evidence from their own vocational classrooms and shops to examine instructional effectiveness, curriculum and standards alignment, academic and technical integration, student engagement, assessment practices, supports for diverse learners, classroom/shop learning environments, career-connected learning, and professional growth.
Research-based instructional practices and professional resources are used as lenses through which participants examine their current teaching. Rather than focusing primarily on the development of introductory teaching skills, participants demonstrate proficiency through evidence of practice, analysis of student learning, application of research-based instructional strategies, and professional reflection.
The course culminates in a CTE Professional Practice Portfolio demonstrating proficiency and continued growth as a vocational educator.
This course fulfills one of the DESE-approved coursework requirements addressing the Professional Standards for Vocational Technical Teachers (603 CMR 4.10) for candidates pursuing a Professional Vocational Technical Teacher license.
PLEASE NOTE: Since field observations take place in area educational settings, students may be required to complete a criminal background check (CORI/SORI/CHRI).
