LIT220 The Graphic Novel

This course will examine the storytelling potential of graphic novels as it is accomplished through the combination of images and text. Course objectives include understanding the formal structures of comics, analyzing the visual grammar of the medium, and exploring issues such as immigration, racism, war and terrorism, relationships, and gender identity. Both celebrated mainstream graphic novels and those that challenge the conventions of the genre will be assigned.
