Auditing a Course

Students may audit a course by electing to enroll and attend a credit course for self-improvement or individual interest without the responsibility of fulfilling academic assignments. Students do not earn credit for an audited course, and will receive a “grade” of AU on their NECC transcript. An audit grade CANNOT be changed to a regular course grade.

In order to audit a course, students must first get written approval from the instructor of record for the course, with a CC to the Academic Dean for the area.  This can be done by email or by using the Audit Request Form, available from Enrollment Services (Welcome Express).  This request must be completed before the end of the Add/Drop period for the semester in which the student intends to audit.  Please note, approval of an audit is not guaranteed.

Approved Audit Request emails / forms must then be submitted to the Registrar who will process the request.

Tuition for an audited course is the same as a regular course.  Students may not use federal financial aid to cover the cost of tuition for audited courses.
