Posting Policy
Bulletin boards are placed throughout the college for use by college recognized departments and organizations, as well as individual students and employees. Bulletin boards specifically designated for public use are clearly identified.
Certain bulletin boards and display cases are assigned and identified for the exclusive use of academic or administrative departments for college business and are therefore subject to individual department policy. Check with the individual academic area or administrative department for specific information on their posting policies. Each academic or administrative department is responsible for the approval of any postings on designated bulletin boards.
Advertising may appear on assigned bulletin boards only and is subject to Northern Essex Community College policies and procedures. Advertising appearing in unassigned areas will be removed.
Postings for recognized student clubs and organizations must be approved by the Student Life Office. All posting and removal of information pertaining to Student Life events and programs can be obtained from the Student Life Office.
Posting of materials by outside agencies for employment opportunities are handled through Career Services, and are limited to the public bulletin boards or the Online Career Services.
Non-profit organizations may post their events on designated public bulletin boards. These organizations may be asked to produce a copy of their tax-exempt letter from the IRS to verify their non-profit status. Posted advertisements should be no larger than 11” x 17”.
Individuals and groups not affiliated with the College should contact the Student Life Office before posting printed materials on public bulletin boards or distributing printed material in order to ensure that they understand the College’s policies and procedures regarding the distribution of printed material on campus.
All postings must include a removal date.
Solicitation Policy
Solicitation and commercial activities are prohibited on College property without the College’s prior, written consent. Prohibited solicitation includes, but is not limited to, the posting of advertisements for the sale of goods or services on College property. Fundraising of a personal or political nature are strictly prohibited.
The College may permit fundraising activities by College-affiliated persons or groups, including recognized student groups and organizations, in direct support of their College related activities. All fundraising materials shall bear the name of the person or group conducting the activity, along with contact information.
Prior approval for all fundraising activities must be obtained from the President or the Vice President/Dean under whose jurisdiction the organization or the department operates. For example, a faculty member working through a department would seek approval through the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs or their dean. A student working through a student club would seek approval from the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs or the Director of Student Life. When such approval is granted, funds must be handled through the appropriate procedures as established by the Comptroller of the college. This rule is intended to promote an educational rather than commercial atmosphere, to promote safety and security, to prevent commercial exploitation of students, and to promote campus tranquility.
Credit card companies are specifically prohibited from soliciting or selling on campus.
Fundraising activities conducted in noncompliance with this policy are expressly not approved or endorsed by the College and are prohibited.
