ECE201 Language & Reading Development in Early Childhood
This course offers an imaginative and creative approach to teaching readiness skills through literature in the context of the developing child.
The development and behavioral characteristics of children and their related impact on literacy will be explored. Through exposure to a wide range of children’s literature (picture books, storytelling, folk tales, puppetry, drama, read aloud), extensive study of the stages of language development emerging literacy, and the exploration of the varied approaches to the reading process (whole language, phonics, word recognition), students will demonstrate the competency to develop lesson plans and strategies for teaching reading.
