HIS243 Contemporary Hispanic Caribbean

This course is a survey of the history of the Hispanic Caribbean since 1900 to the current time. It will trace the political, social, cultural and economic development of the region. Special attention will be given to the presence of the United States and other countries in the zone’s geopolitics, to the period after World War II, and to cultural life in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Puerto Rico.
